“Yes, it was very nice and hot,” reads a Facebook post from the MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais, “but of course none of that is a good reason to drive recklessly.”

According to the police department’s press release, within 50 minutes, three Ontario drivers were “caught driving at 106, 115 and 123 km/h in a 70 speed zone.”

These “auto racing enthusiasts” “went to the Luskville Dragway track,” according to the information in the press release.

Also on Saturday evening, a citizen notified public safety officers because he “observed three vehicles apparently speeding on Boulevard des Allumetières in the Aylmer sector and then on Route 148.”

Thanks to a good description of the vehicles, the officer on site was able to intercept them a few minutes later.

These three drivers, all Ottawa residents, are 19, 28 and 52 years old and face fines.

In the Facebook post, the MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais wants to point out that “the vast majority of fans who visit the circuit respect the speed limits”, but not only they require the work of police officers.

The police press release said officers in Outaouais “were dealing with several motorists who had heavy feet.”

On Saturday morning, police arrested a 32-year-old driver who was driving at 101 km/h in a 50 zone.

The woman must pay a fine of $822, in addition to 10 penalty points and a suspension of her driving license for a period of 7 days.

On Sunday, a 26-year-old driver from Ottawa was caught traveling 157 km/h on Route 105.

He again has to pay $1,330 and collect 14 demerit points. His driving license will also be revoked for 7 days.
