A North Carolina man hit and killed a 6-year-old girl as she sped past her home — then called her a “r*tard” to police who arrived at the scene.

Andrew Everett, 50, was charged with involuntary manslaughter, reckless driving and speeding for the Dec. 29 crash that killed 6-year-old Joselin Perez Hernandez.

Hernandez's family said she was playing near the sidewalk in front of her Cary home just before noon when the vehicle struck her.

A recently released police search warrant revealed that Everett had marijuana drug paraphernalia in his car and was driving up to 15 miles over the speed limit.

According to the warrant, Everett said, “I’m not sure why this investigation is taking more than five minutes. It wasn't my fault, no one was watching her and she jumped out in front of me. 'That idiot.' It is unclear whether the little girl was disabled.

Walnut Street between Ryan Road and Ralph Drive was closed following the crash and the Honda Fit had front right damage and a cracked windshield.

Everett claimed the child jumped out in front of him, but police noted that the lack of skid marks on the road suggested he had not attempted to brake.

Police said Everett “showed no remorse, exhibited a delayed reaction to the accident and was impatient during the investigation.”

The six-year-old was taken to WakeMed Cary Hospital with brain and spinal injuries but died shortly afterwards.
