Spengler Cup: Canada triumphs right from the start

Canada opened the Spengler Cup with a 4-0 win over Frölunda HC on Tuesday in Davos.

Goalkeeper Aaron Dell stopped 30 shots from the Swedish club's skaters.

However, it was attacker Jonathan Hazen and defenseman Ty Smith who were the Maple Leaf's big stars. The first scored two goals and one assist, while the second hit the goal once and provided two assists.

The other scorer for the winners was Corban Knight, who scored on the power play.

Canada also received six penalties, but was obviously able to exploit the numerical disadvantage perfectly.

Head coach Bruce Boudreau's team will be back in action on Thursday against HC Davos. The Canadian team is the most successful club with 16 crowns in the annual competition, one more than its nearest rivals.
