‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ reveals Daredevil’s deleted scene

Charlie Cox is back as Matthew Murdoch/Daredevil in Spider-Man: No Home, and a leaked short reveals that another scene with him has been cut.

Daredevil fans almost saw more of Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

A leaked behind-the-scenes short film reveals the scene was filmed with Happy Hogan actors Jon Favreau and Charlie Cox reprising their role from the Daredevil series for the film. Although Murdoch only appears onscreen in one scene, he told Hogan that he “needed a really good lawyer” before catching a brick thrown through a window and identifying himself as such. The deleted scene appears to focus on Murdoch acting as Hogan’s “really good lawyer” while he is under investigation for technology missing from Stark Industries.

In February, Cox revealed that he and Jon Favreau were trying to slip an Easter egg into the film with a reference to Franklin “Foggy” Nelson. Foggy Nelson is the legal partner and best friend of Matt Murdock, played by Elden Henson in the Netflix series Marvel. However, prior to Henson, Favreau portrayed the character alongside actor Ben Affleck in the 2003 film Daredevil. Given that the two were going to be in No Road Together, they couldn’t ignore the coincidence.

Discussing the cut reference, Cox said, “I don’t think they used it, but we added a little easter egg when he says, ‘Yeah, I’m kind of confused about how that happened’ or something,” describing a chance to talk to Favreau about Daredevil as a “cool moment”. However, Cox never specified whether this moment should take place in a scene that was included in the final cut of the film, or in a scene that was completely omitted.

While the actor may not have heard applause for his return during the screening of No Way Home, fans were thrilled that the Marvel Cinematic Universe brought Cox back as Murdoch. Daredevil was canceled back in 2018 along with the rest of Marvel’s live shows on Netflix. While these shows are no longer available on the streaming platform, they will arrive on Disney+ on March 16th.

As for Daredevil’s future in the MCU, there are rumors that the character will appear in other upcoming projects including Moon Knight, She-Hulk, Echo, Ironheart, and Armor Wars. The leaked hiring list also reportedly indicates that a new Daredevil-focused project is also in the works. However, there has been no official confirmation of any of these rumors and reports.

While Daredevil will soon be fully streaming on Disney+, Spider-Man: No Home is still in theaters and will be available on Blu-ray in early April and on digital platforms on March 15th.
