The live-action Spider-Man Noir series in the works at Amazon has tapped Steve Lightfoot as co-showrunner, Variety has learned exclusively.

Back in February, it was reported that the show was in the works at Amazon. Oren Uziel is the writer on the project and will serve as co-showrunner and executive producer alongside Lightfoot.

As previously reported, the untitled series is about an older, grizzled superhero in 1930s New York. A person with knowledge of the project says the show will be set in its own universe and the main character will not be Peter Parker.

This isn’t Lightfoot’s first foray into the Marvel world. He was previously the creator and showrunner of the Jon Bernthal-starring Netflix series The Punisher, which ran for two seasons before Disney decided to withdraw all Marvel content to their own streaming platforms. Most recently, he was the producer and showrunner of the Apple TV+ series “Shantaram,” based on the book of the same name. His other credits include “Hannibal,” “Narcos,” and “Behind Her Eyes.”

Lightfoot is repped by WME and the Curtis Brown Group.

The Spider-Man Noir show is the second known project based on the Sony-controlled Marvel characters on Amazon. It has already been announced that Amazon is moving forward with showrunner Angela Kang’s Silk: Spider Society series, with several more shows in the works. It is currently unknown which other Marvel characters will appear in the other Amazon shows, although Sony currently controls over 900 such characters associated with the Spider-Man franchise.

Uziel developed the show alongside “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, as well as former Sony boss Amy Pascal, all of whom serve as executive producers. Pascal is executive producer through Pascal Pictures. Sony Pictures Television is the studio and Lord and Miller currently have an overall contract there.
