With toy movies all the rage (just look at the Play-Doh film by Emily V. Gordon and Jon M. Chu, Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig’s Barbie film, and Paramount’s Transformers franchise), Halloween has come -Fans underserved – until now.
Spirit Halloween, the legendary costume and prop store with 1,425 locations across North America, has teamed up with Strike Back Studios, Hideout Pictures and Particular Crowd for a feature-length family film entitled Spirit Halloween.
Touted as a family/kids adventure film, the project stars Back to the Future’s Christopher Lloyd and She Is All That, Rachael Leigh Cook, as well as several new faces.
“When a new Spirit Halloween store pops up in an abandoned mall, three middle school friends who think they’ve outgrown trick-or-treating dare to spend the store’s Halloween night locked up,” reads the logline . “But they soon find out that the store is being haunted by an angry evil spirit that has been possessing the creepy animatronic figures. The kids embark on an exciting and spooky adventure to survive the night and avoid becoming possessed.”
Lloyd and Cook are joined by Donavan Colan (“Zoe”), Dylan Frankel (“Raven’s Home”), Jaiden Smith (“Blue Bloods”) and Marissa Reyes (“Raven’s Home”)
Marla Gibbs (“El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie”) will also star in the film, which will be directed by David Poag and will make his directorial debut. Billie Bates wrote the screenplay.
Spirit Halloween has now wrapped filming with production targeting an October 2022 release.

“One of the reasons I felt an immediate connection to the script is that it is very heavily inspired by some of my favorite adventure movies for kids which are ‘The Goonies’, ‘Gremlins’, ‘Monster Squad’ and so many great movies from Amblin Entertainment,” said Noor Ahmed, President of Strike Back Studios.
Ahmed will produce Spirit Halloween with Shannon Houchins. Executive producers are Yanelevich von Tomás, Peter Bevan, Mariana Sanjurjo and Clay Epstein.
The production, which has secured a promotional partnership with Spirit Halloween, is a collaboration between Hideout Pictures (“Old Henry”) and WarnerMedia Latin America’s original film label Particular Crowd in association with Film Mode Entertainment (“As They Made Us”).
Strike Back Studios and Hideout Pictures also recently collaborated with Tim Blake Nelson on Asleep in My Palm, which wrapped in February.
