A sports coordinator at Charles-Lemoyne College in Sainte-Catherine on Montreal's south shore has been arrested and accused of sexually abusing three minors in Sherbrooke in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Sylvain Taillefer, a 58-year-old man from Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, was handcuffed by the Sûreté du Québec Thursday morning before appearing remotely at the Sherbrooke courthouse, Sherbrooke police said.
Five charges have been brought against the man, including three counts of sexual touching as many victims, all of whom were under 14 years old at the time of the crime. Charges of sexual assault and incitement to commit sexual acts were also brought against one of the victims.
“The investigation tends to suggest that he may have caused additional casualties,” Sherbrooke police said.
Charles-Lemoyne College responded by announcing the suspension of Sylvain Taillefer.
“According to the information released, the arrest is related to inappropriate conduct that occurred prior to his employment at the college. The employee has been suspended from his duties,” the university commented, while ensuring that it was cooperating with the police.
