Spurs Player Ratings: Super Son, dynamic Doherty, Kane and Kulusevski create, Bentancur shines

Hugo Lloris

Got a free kick from Schar with his hand but couldn’t save it. He had nothing else to do. 6

Christian Romero

Made a crucial challenge in the 22nd minute to deny Willock at close range. Was calm personified and another game where he avoided a yellow card. Must do the same in at least one of the next two. 8th

Erich Dier

Another solid game in the middle of the back three organized as the game progressed. 7

Ben Davis

Great header from the Welshman to quickly equalize after Schar’s opener. What he deserves for a good defensive performance. 8th

Emerson Royal

Few loose passes initially but he grew into the game, worked hard and earned his goal, drilling Doherty’s cross over the line and into the net. 7

Pierre Emile Hojbjerg

A headfirst effort in the first half and fought alongside Bentancur in the engine room. 7

Rodrigo Bentancur

Got a yellow card after a scuffle in the first half but recovered from there and had another 75 minutes under his belt looking like a top-flight Premier League player. 8th

Matt Doherty

It took him a while to figure out how to influence the attack from the left, but he did just that early in the second half, diving in to head Kane’s cross home at the back post. He then added an assist to Emerson with a cross to bring home Tottenham’s fourth. Another great achievement from him. 9

Dejan Kulusevski

Busy bottom right and he selected Son for Spurs’ third to add another assist to his collection. That was five assists since joining the Premier League, more than any player in the competition since that moment. He was also involved in Tottenham’s fourth goal. He created four chances in total, as many as Newcastle players combined. 8th

Harry Kane

Received an early yellow card for a tactical foul after losing the ball and sending a show wide of the Newcastle goal. He then grabbed an assist early in the second half with a cross to Doherty at the back post to score. He turned to the creator again to pinch Kulusevski on the right for Son’s goal. Prepare Son for another big opportunity as well. 8th

son Heung-min

He rolled a testing cross into the box to allow Davies to go home and then added a goal to his assist by controlling Kulusevski’s ball into the box and burying it past the keeper. Could have had another one of Kane’s ball soon after. Back in the right groove and the goals and assists keep flowing. 9

Lucas Mura

The Brazilian came off the bench with some drives and played his part in Bergwijn’s goal. 7

Harry Winks

Brought fresh legs into midfield for the last 15 minutes. 6

Steven Bergwijn

Continuing his brilliant fortnight, running for the ball after Lucas was dribbled through and tackled and the Dutchman sovereignly buried him. Exactly the cameo he needed. 8th
