Progressive Rep. Jamaal Bowman hinted over the weekend that if Republicans regain control of Congress after November’s midterm elections, far-right white nationalists may be emboldened to start another civil war.
The New York “Squad” member made a series of predictions on MSNBC about what a Republican-dominated Washington would be like, including multiple trials for President Joe Biden and the dissolution of the special committee investigating the Jan. 6 riot in the Capitol.
“They would impeach President Biden as soon as possible and they will continue to find ways to impeach him in the future,” Bowman said in the Cross Connection with Tiffany Cross.
“It would also encourage Republicans and the far right and white nationalists across the country to believe it’s time to take power not just in the House of Representatives, but in the Senate, White House and state houses across the country.” .”
He continued, “And we have to understand that this is a group that has been radicalized by the great surrogate myth and many other things, pushing for violence and even civil war.”
Bowman warned that the lives of “black and brown people” are at stake “if those people come back to power”.
And the committee currently in the process of exposing the efforts of Trump and his Republican allies to undermine American democracy told Bowman it would “cease to exist.”
“Findings would be completely suppressed and would not enter into further investigations while the GOP was in power,” the left-wing lawmaker said.

The “big replacement” theory was spearheaded by an 18-year-old gunman who killed 10 people last month at a supermarket in a mostly black neighborhood of Buffalo, New York.
His racist principles were echoed by the man who killed 23 people, mostly Hispanic, at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas, in 2019.
Bowman was part of a group of House lawmakers who passed the first-ever resolution condemning the Great Replacement theory last week.
“Gun violence is an existential threat to all of us, but it takes deep hatred and brainwashing to kill people just because of their race, religion or national origin,” Bowman said at the time.
“We must address both gun reform and the fight against hatred of all kinds to truly eradicate this shocking and harrowing mass killing. Congress cannot stand by and pretend not to see the impact of the Great Replacement Theory in fueling these terrorist attacks.’
His bold warning comes two weeks after a new poll by the Southern Poverty Law Center suggested more than 50 percent of GOP voters believe the US is headed for civil war.
53 percent of right-wing voters said so, compared to 39 percent of Democrats.
He also predicted that the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 riot in the Capitol would “cease to exist” and “the findings would be completely suppressed.”

Nearly seven in 10 Republican respondents said they believed to some extent that “liberal leaders” would retain power by replacing “more conservative white voters” with minorities, a thought process chillingly similar to grand replacement theory.
Despite Bowman’s dramatic prediction, the progressive’s squadmates don’t all seem keen on presenting a united Democratic front to get across the finish line.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, for example, refused to say if she would support President Joe Biden if he ran for re-election in 2024 – which aides and allies have said he intends to do.
“You know, if the president decides to run again in 2024 — I mean, my first focus is on winning that majority now and maintaining a majority this year in 2022,” Ocasio-Cortez said.
“So we’re going to cross that bridge when we get there, but I think if the President has a vision – that’s something I’m sure we’ll all be ready to entertain and consider when the time comes.”
