Jafaree Wright, 18, was arrested Wednesday and charged with attempted murder, robbery with use of firearms, disposition of a firearm, conspiracy and possession.

His 16-year-old accomplice, whose identity cannot be revealed because he is a minor, was arrested in mid-February and charged before the Juvenile Chamber on counts of robbery with firearms, aggravated assault, conspiracy and possession.

The two suspects will remain in custody pending trial, the Service de Police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) said on Thursday.

The police investigations and arrests were carried out by the SPVM West Criminal Investigation Department, assisted in part by officers from Neighborhood Watch 7 (Saint-Laurent).

The facts happened on January 7: around 11.30 p.m., a 19-year-old young man walking down rue Dépatie in the Saint-Laurent district was suddenly threatened with a firearm by two suspects who had been following him for a few minutes.

They wanted to steal his cell phone and other personal belongings, but when the victim resisted and cried out for help, he was shot in the stomach. The suspects then fled on foot, and the injured young man was taken to the hospital when the police arrived. He is continuing his recovery at home.
