A Montrealer who was stabbed in an alleyway in Verdun found the strength to report his attacker shortly before he died, enabling the search for the perpetrator, who was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Friday.
“He dialed 911 from a phone booth to mention he had been stabbed in the heart, gave an address on Lasalle Boulevard and identified his attacker as ‘Pat.’ He says to send an ambulance,” read the summary of the facts released Friday in the Montreal courthouse in Pascal Hally’s filing.
Hally, 51, was a crack salesman with a long history, primarily on larceny, regulation violation and drug counts.

He was also on probation during the crime committed in February 2021.
For his part, the 38-year-old victim, Faiez Mohamedieh, was described by his family as a person who “listened, who constantly wanted to help”.

Make Mohamedeh, sacrifice
“He had a beautiful benevolent soul,” his brother commented on Friday, calling the night of February 1, 2021 “traumatic.”
That evening a friend of Mr Mohamedieh’s had asked him to buy some crack. After agreeing, the victim went to a bank on Wellington Street to make an ATM withdrawal.
However, as he said goodbye, his path happened to cross with Hally’s. The two men knew each other as Mr Mohamedieh had already dated the crack seller’s girlfriend.
“You stole my wife from me,” the victim is said to have said to the accused, who was under the influence of alcohol and drugs at the time.
Then there would have been a little argument. Only Hally had a knife with her. He delivered a single blow to Mr Mohamedieh’s chest, but it proved fatal.
“The defendant, unaware of the seriousness of the injury he had just inflicted, decided to turn back,” the summary of the matter reads.
Covered in blood, the victim nevertheless found the strength to call 911 to report his attacker and even gave his address. During his transport to the hospital, he repeated the same information.
“The victim’s death has been declared [peu après]“, Claude Berlinguette from the Krone told me.
It is thanks to this call, however, that Hally was arrested six weeks later. Because despite careful analysis of the crime scene, the police had found only a few clues.
“There were no witnesses and the inquest could not determine what happened,” prosecutors said Friday, while Hally pleaded guilty to manslaughter.
The defendant had originally been charged with murder, but due to “gotchas in the evidence” the parties agreed that he would plead guilty to a reduced charge. Hally also wanted to apologize for his gesture with tears.
“I’m so sorry,” he said, suppressing his sobs. It happened so fast, I didn’t want to… I’ve known him for 10-15 years, we were already close, we already had a beer together… Every time I get up, I think about what has arrived. ..”
But despite those apologies, which Judge James Brunton called “sincere,” the deceased’s family is still struggling to recover.
“It’s been almost 25 months … it was vicious and vile, the victim’s mother testified. There is nothing more painful and unbearable for a mother than losing her child. I am sure that one day divine justice will be done.”
For her part, Mr Mohamedieh’s sister recalled that by killing her brother, Hally “ruined a family for life”.
However, “My brother will always live deep in our hearts,” the victim’s brother said.
“The court hopes that the end of the trial can bring them some relief,” the judge said.
Hally has approximately 6.5 years left to serve in preventive detention. He was represented by Me Annie Laviolette-Boisvert.
