Logan Roy would be proud! Succession star Matthew Macfadyen is making a £1.25million profit on the home he shares with Keeley Hawes after restoring and downsizing it

In the murderous world of the TV series Succession, his scheming character, Tom Wambsgans, was no stranger to striking a dramatic deal.

And in real life, Matthew Macfadyen has shown his business savvy after making a £1.25million profit on the house he shares with actress Keeley Hawes – by making it smaller.

He also gave the property back its Victorian appearance and made it more visually appealing from the street.

Macfadyen, 48, bought the yellow-brick two-storey family home in Twickenham, south-west of central London, in 2016 for £2.25million. Now he’s sold it for £3.5million – a sum that Succession’s monstrous media mogul Logan Roy would no doubt pay to applaud.

Macfadyen’s tasteful renovations restored the six-bed house to its original appearance by removing “architecturally messy” additions.

In March 2018 he received permission from Richmond Council to demolish two-story painted plaster extensions on one side of the house and replace them with an elegant one-story conservatory.

The actor also received approval for a first floor roof terrace with security balustrades, accessible from the master bedroom. Notting Hill-based architect Hackett Holland said in his design statement to the council that the 19th-century house had been extended into the garden by previous owners.

“These extensions are architecturally messy and have a negative impact on the streetscape,” the company said. It explained that the replacement of the conservatory “will result in an overall reduction in the volume of the building, but will open up the original rooms to the garden”.

A source confirmed that the completed work would have made the home “around 15 percent smaller.” Macfadyen and Bodyguard star Ms Hawes, 47, who married in 2004 and have two children together, are said to have moved to an affluent area of west London.

The award-winning series Succession, created by Brit Jesse Armstrong, co-writer of Channel 4 comedy Peep Show, launched in 2018 and ran for four seasons.

The final episode aired last week and Tom Wambsgans became the new boss of Waystar RoyCo.
