Admiral Jean-Luc Picard finds himself in an awkward position in the second episode of Star Trek when he tries to fend off an enemy bounty hunter in order to save the life of Dr. Saving Beverly Crusher’s son Jack while wondering if Jack could be his son: third season of Picard titled Disengage.
The episode begins two weeks before the end of last week’s episode, the season premiere, to reveal what happened to the doctor (Gates McFadden) who previously sent a distress signal to Picard.
When a security group calls the ship, Jack (Ed Speleers) says the ship is there to help people suffering from an illness on the nearby planet, but he doesn’t have the papers to allow him access to the quarantine zone To provide .
The security team boards him for inspection but suspect he is attempting to bribe them with alcohol before revealing weapons to help them take out warlords on the planet below while helping the sick fugitives.
Heat Up: Admiral Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) finds himself in an awkward position trying to fend off an enemy bounty hunter in order to save the life of Dr. Saving Beverly Crusher’s son Jack while wondering if Jack could be his son in the second episode of the third season, titled Disengage Family Resemblance? Picard wondered if Jack Crusher (Ed Speleers) might be a secret son he had with his ex, Dr. Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden) had shared.
“Reach out for the marked woman. We found him,” says the head of the security team before leaving the ship.
The show cuts two weeks into the future when Picard and Riker meet with Jack as he explains about the team of men disguised as Starfleet members who boarded the ship.
You will find what looks like an enemy ship floating in space. Jack explains that he and his mother ran away from that ship, but now the ship is running out of exhaust fumes and is dangerously close.
“We need to make contact,” Picard says, as the computer explains that the mysterious ship is aiming its weapon systems at them, suggesting it intends to blow them to pieces.
Commander Annika Hansen (Jeri Ryan), aka Seven of Nine, is back on Titan when the crew learns of the enemy ship, but Captain Shaw (Todd Stashwick) orders his crew not to attempt to rescue Picard.
He said the Titan was an “exploration ship” that couldn’t win a fight and therefore wouldn’t help Picard and Riker.
Jack rushed to get a shuttle ready to send the injured Beverly to Titan where she might be able to get help, but the enemy ship begins firing on her, damaging the shuttle just as her vitals begin to fail.
Meanwhile, Raffi Muskier (Michelle Hurd) looks devastated when she sees a news report of a terrorist attack on Starfleet Recruitment Building.
On Board: The episode begins two weeks earlier when Jack is stopped by security, preventing him from dropping off medical supplies during an outbreak. He reveals weapons to help them take out warlords on the planet below while helping the sick fugitives helps. Back in the present, Picard and Riker (Jonathan Frakes) have boarded the ship to find Beverly injured in a medical pod. Overwhelmed: They learn that a huge enemy ship is on their tail, causing them too much damage to take the doctor to safety. The crew learns of the enemy ship, but Captain Shaw (Todd Stashwick) orders his crew not to to try to save Picard
She had learned about the attack in the previous episode, but her warnings came too late to prevent the bombing.
In a secure chat with her caregiver, she laments her inability to save the 117 dead.
The supervisor replies that the investigation was dropped after a suspect was found, but Raffi says the man is likely a scapegoat and even if he was implicated, he’s a long way from the core of the terrorist cell.
Her request for a face-to-face meeting to understand why the investigation was dropped was denied, but she vowed to find out who was responsible without Starfleet’s help.
Back on the Titan, Seven attempted to get Shaw to act after the ship detected signs that Picard’s ship had been attacked, though he refused.
“Sir, you could be the hero who saved heroes or you could be remembered as the captain who let two legends die. It’s your choice, sir,” she says.
Back with Picard and Riker, Jack tries to plan their next moves while Picard is busy setting up devices.
“Does the legendary admiral have any ideas?” asks Jack
“I don’t strategize, I provide security,” Picard replies.
Moving on: Meanwhile, Raffi Muskier (Michelle Hurd) is devastated after failing to prevent a terrorist attack while undercover. She asks her supervisor to let her continue her investigation. Doesn’t charge: The supervisor replies that the investigation was dropped after a suspect was found, but Raffi says the man is likely a scapegoat. Standing Up: Back on the Titan, Seven tried to act to get Shaw after the ship spotted signs that Picard’s ship had been attacked, though he refused. Simply put, “Sir, you could be the hero who saved heroes, or you could be remembered as the captain who let two legends die.” It’s your choice, sir,” she says
Jack is then to be beamed onto the enemy ship until Picard turns on one of his devices preventing him from being transported and warning him that the invaders hope to get Jack alive onto their ship.
“If they can’t get you out, they’ll come in,” Riker warns, just before the computer reports that intruders have boarded their ship.
A group of masked soldiers start firing down a corridor, but Riker shoves a small bomb at them, which detonates, keeping them at bay.
Despite subduing the forces, the ship is then pulled up by a tractor beam, carrying it towards the much larger enemy ship.
Riker plans to develop a counter-beam to counter the pull, but Jack informs him that in its weakened state, the ship no longer has the necessary technology.
But as the ship comes perilously close to being destroyed and swept into the larger craft, the Titan shoots in the beam’s path, severing it.
Seven and Shaw then attempt to beam the four passengers aboard, but Picard’s transport inhibitors prevent the process, so he fires his phaser at them. All are successfully beamed aboard the Titan.
Back at Raffi’s, she meets her ex-husband Jae Hwang to get an audience with a gangster who may have information about the terrorist attack.
Time Nick: Jack almost beams up from the attack ship, but Picard had just installed anti-transport devices that saved him from a much larger enemy ship. Jack tells Riker that the ship is too weak to counter the escape: Seven and Shaw then try to beam the four passengers aboard, but Picard’s transport inhibitors prevent the process, so he fires his phaser at them. All are successfully beamed aboard the Titan
Jae is furious that she is more interested in meeting the gangster than seeing her son, Gabe. He offers to connect her to the Source or help her see her son again, but not both. Her silence suggests that she chose information about the gangster
On the Titan, Captain Shaw is greeted by the enemy ship and its leader, Captain Vadic (Amanda Plummer).
She says Jack “broke a number of laws both inside and outside of Federation space.”
Since he has a “substantial bounty” on his head, she wants to take him with her, but Shaw says Starfleet doesn’t deal with bounty hunters.
She shows she means business by lowering her shields to allow the Titan to scan any weapons pointed at him.
She gives them an hour to deliver Jack and threatens that she will blow them out of the sky. To show that she means business, she uses her ship’s tractor beam to throw the recently abandoned ship onto Titan, destroying it and breaching Titan’s hull.
Shaw meets up with his new passengers and reveals that Jack is a fugitive wanted for crimes under multiple false names.
Seven tries to tell him that the enemy ship isn’t a traditional bounty hunter ship and is something more sinister, but he doesn’t want to hear it and instead has her removed from service for disobedience.
Reunion: Back at Raffi’s, she meets her ex-husband Jae Hwang to get an audience with a gangster who may have information about the terrorist attack. Job over family: Jae is furious that she’s more interested in meeting the mobster than seeing her son, Gabe. He offers to connect her to the source or help her see her son again, but not both, and she decides the mobster has put a bounty on his head. She gives them an hour to hand it over
Riker urges Shaw not to give up on Jack since the enemy ship is a “guillotine”, but Shaw says that Starfleet rules tell him to protect his ship and crew first.
Alone with Picard, Riker seems to hint that Jack could be his son, though Picard warns him not to “speculate”.
In a private audience in Jack’s cell, Picard confronts Jack about his alleged crimes. Jack claims he’s a doctor, helping people in need of medical care in rebel-held areas, although he admits he’s also a thief willing to steal the supplies and other items needed to make his way to bribe into war zones.
He shocks Picard by saying that his mother Beverly is his partner in everything he does, and he berates Picard for not keeping up with his mother.
‘Who is your father?’ Picard interrupts, but Jack yells back, “I’ve never had one!”
Elsewhere, Raffi makes her way to a club as she continues her investigation. She meets a bouncer and tells him that she is there to see the gangster Sneed, who she believes is responsible for the terrorist attack.
She convinces Sneed that she is no longer with Starfleet when she pours him a bag of riches in exchange for knowledge of a deal he may have put together to get the technology for the attack.
She mentions the Romulan t’Luco being blamed for the bombing, but claims he couldn’t have done it because she works for him.
Doing the Right Thing: Riker urges Shaw not to give up on Jack since the enemy ship is a “guillotine,” but Shaw says that Starfleet rules tell him to protect his ship and crew first in Good and Evil: In One Private Audience in Jack In his cell, Picard confronts Jack about his alleged crimes. Jack claims he is a doctor who helps people who need medical care in rebel areas, although he is also a thief. Secret: Riker tricked Picard into thinking he might be Jack’s father
He tells her to take a truth serum to ensure she is who she says she is. She is able to fight this, claiming that she still works for t’Luco, which Sneed says is an artifact of tolerance she’s built up from her past addiction, as he reveals he knows she doesn’t like him for t ‘Luco works pulling the severed head of the Romulan out of a box.
She then stabs Sneed in the hand as another assailant breaks into the gathering and begins cutting the guards to pieces before decapitating Sneed.
“I told you, don’t attack,” the man says as he carries her out, revealing that he is her old friend, the Klingong Worf (Michael Dorn), who also worked as her caretaker.
Back on the Titan, Picard urges Shaw not to give up on Jack Crusher with 15 minutes to go.
But in his prison cell, Jack is able to use a hidden device to detach the shield keeping him in his cell. He attacks the guard watching him and runs out onto the ship.
Meanwhile, Riker learns that Beverly is out of danger and tries to undo her sedative to talk to her.
On the bridge, Vadic greets Shaw and Picard again and reveals that their ship, the Shrike, is named after an earth bird. She warns them not to hesitate, as her ship will incapacitate the Titan piece by piece until they are killed.
Despite being relieved of command, Seven of Nine finds Jack pointing a gun at her and orders her to get the transporter ready for him. Picard explains to Shaw that Jack is trying to give himself up to save his mother.
On the hunt: Elsewhere, Raffi invades a club while continuing her investigation. She meets a bouncer and tells him that she is there to see the gangster Sneed, who she believes is responsible for the terrorist attack. Bloody Surprise: Sneed forces her to take a truth serum, which she is able to resist due to her years of drug addiction, but he reveals that he knows she is lying when he retrieves the severed head of the scapegoat blamed for the Shocker terrorist attack : She then stabs Sneed in the hand as another assailant breaks into the gathering and begins cutting the guards to pieces before decapitating Sneed. Turns out he’s the Klingong Worf (Michael Dorn) Surprise! Worf also worked as her caretaker. “I told you, don’t attack,” he says as he carries her out. He surrenders: Jack escapes his cell to beam aboard the enemy ship to rescue Titan’s crew, but Picard doesn’t allow him to go and orders the crew to attack The Hard Way: After Riker breaks them out of their sedation Beverly gives Picard a single look that conveys that Jack is his son. He orders the Titan to shoot at the bounty hunters before fleeing into space
Shaw orders the transporters to be unlocked so Jack can leave, but then a revived Beverly enters the bridge with Riker while Picard looks pained at seeing his ex.
He then calls out to the crew to back up Shaw’s order and they obey him even though he’s retired. He explains that Beverly’s look confirmed that Jack was his son.
He calls out to the Shrike to announce that he is engaged in combat before jetting off. Vadic lets out a battered giggle and orders her crew to follow the fleeing Titan as the episode ends abruptly.
