If you’re a Star Trek fan and haven’t seen Prodigy yet, you might want to catch up before next week. According to (via io9), Paramount+ canceled the series along with a handful of other shows, including Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies and The Game. In a nod to Disney and Max owners Warner Bros. Discovery, Paramount Global is also removing “Star Trek: Prodigy” and the other series that were canceled Friday from Paramount+ in exchange for a tax write-off. Fans have until next week to watch the series before its fate becomes uncertain.
“As we prepare to combine Paramount+ and Showtime later this month in the US, we are refining our content offerings to provide subscribers with the best streaming experience,” a Paramount+ spokesperson told . “This aligns with our content strategy since inception and across our organization, which ensures we make smart and efficient decisions based on audience data and insights. We’re removing select programs to optimize Showtime’s extensive selection of premium originals.”
The cancellation comes after Paramount+ previously gave the green light for a second season of Star Trek: Prodigy. The show could find another home. notes that Prodigy producer CBS Studios plans to complete post-production on season two and offer both seasons on a new streaming platform. The announcement doesn’t impact other Star Trek series, as Paramount+ will continue to be home to ongoing entries like Strange New Worlds.
