Star Wars on Disney+: The schedule of upcoming films and series available to stream – Télé-Loisirs

Disney continues to tap into the Star Wars vein on Disney+. Since Jon Favreau produced “The Mandalorian,” the series starring a Mandalorian with no real connection to the well-known heroes of the Skywalker saga, the universe war of stars is experiencing a huge resurgence of interest.

It has to be said that the “Postlogy” films, despite all their qualities and all their flaws, didn’t really manage to convince fans. The fear that the Star Wars universe would fall apart in the absence of George Lucas had been all but confirmed by then Dave Filoni, previously architect of animated series such as The Clone Warstake over.

As the first season of Ahsoka comes to an end, which even won over long-time fans, the universe will continue to expand in the coming months and years. After “The Mandalorian”, “The Book of Boba Fett”, “The Bad Batch”, “Obi-Wan Kenobi”, “Star Wars Visions”, “Tales of the Jedi” and “The Adventures of the Little Jedi” (first on YouTube), Disney will continue to produce original Star Wars-branded creations. Alongside the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Galactic Saga is one of the entertainment giant’s best-known franchises. The intergenerational universe of Star Wars has brought together tens (hundreds?) of millions of fans around the world since the original trilogy (1977-1983).

The Mandalorian is a real success thanks to its controlled atmosphere, its solid plot and its hero duo Din Djarin / Grogu. But not all new releases have convinced fans of the saga so much, to say the least.

Disney has already announced it several film and series projects for 2023, 2024 and subsequent years. As usual, fan demands will be high and the company will be eagerly awaited. Here are the details about the Star Wars content that will soon be released online on the subscription streaming platform.

Star Wars series comes to Disney+

Disney has several big projects in the works, from the first unreleased seasons to the castings provided, such as the expected sequel to “The Mandalorian” (Season 4) or “Andor” (Season 2). Here is the list of all the series already announced on Disney+.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew

You’ll tolerate it well a little of Idiots in your war of stars ? That is definitely the goal of this new live-action series, which will be directed by Jon Watts, best known at Marvel for the film adaptation of Spider-Man No Way Home. What we officially know about the series is that it will be like this for main actors Jude Lawwhich in turn was already seen in the film Captain Marvel at Disney.

An initial synopsis leak during the series’ American copyright filing revealed the plot of the very first episode: “We meet four children who make a mysterious discovery on their seemingly peaceful planet and find themselves lost in a strange and mysterious galaxy. Find.” Finding your way home and meeting new allies and enemies will be an adventure greater than you can imagine.

Skeleton Crew has completed filming and is currently editing. The series could soon be available on Disney+ in December 2023 or in the first months of 2024.

Check out this fan-made trailer for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew:

The Acolyte

“The Acolyte” is a new, very mysterious series the year 230 before the Battle of Yavin (the fall of the first Death Star), during a historical period called the High Republic. In the casting we find big names like Carrie-Anne Moss, who plays Trinity in The Matrix, but also Amanda Stenberg (Hunger Games) and Lee Jung-Jae (Squid Game). There is currently no specific release date, but Skeleton Crew should follow until the beginning of 2024. That leaves you wanting more! The synopsis of this space thriller is very promising.

Here’s another fan trailer made by the same channel as the Skeleton Crew video:

Andor – Season 2

Andor was a very nice surprise for Star Wars fans on Disney+. The series is even considered one of the best on the platform, across all universes. We understand very well why: after three interesting first episodes, but a bit slow and conventional, the tone quickly becomes much more brutal. Nothing surprising since the series Stars: Cassian Andor, important member of the revolt and the first impulses of the rebellion against the empire. Stellan Skarsgård’s monologue alone is worth a look.

Filming for the second and final season began in November 2022. It was originally scheduled for release the month of August 2024. However, the Hollywood writers’ strike may have slowed things down, but it’s difficult to determine where the project currently stands. After a first-class first season, we are eagerly awaiting the next show, which skilfully mixes intrigue, politics and espionage.

The Mandalorian – Season 4

Din Djarin and Grogu still have many adventures to go on together, their story is far from over. Jon Favreau recently confirmed that work on Season 4 has been completed and that new crossovers between the different series in the Mandoverse are likely to appear.

But what about the plot of this upcoming season? Absolutely no idea. Season 3 was a fertile breeding ground for the expansion of the universe : Din Djarin returned to the Order when Grogu officially became a Mandalorian. Mandalore has been retaken and Bo-Katan Kryse, now in possession of the Dark Saber, serves as queen.

When we see Din and Grogu sitting quietly in front of their small household at the end of season three, there is no doubt that this peace will be short-lived. But we will only really know no earlier than the end of 2024. The continuation of this very good Star Wars series will probably not appear before this rather distant date. Luckily, there will be other original creations to keep us waiting while we wait.

Ahsoka – Season 2

The first season of Ahsoka recently ended on Disney+. Currently, the platform has not yet formalized the production of a second season. But given the very open ending to this season and what it brings for the future of the Mandoverse, we’re hoping that Rosario Dawson will reprise her role for a second season. When ? Absolutely no idea at the moment, as Disney has not yet communicated on this topic. However, the positive response received by the series gives hope for good news for the future.

The Bad Batch – Season 3

The genetically engineered clone troopers will return for a third and final season on the SVOD service. The Bad Batch may be less successful than Clone Wars, but it remains a good animated series that we recommend. If you are a Star Wars fan, here is something that will help you have a great time in front of your screen. See you in 2024 to watch all 16 episodes of the third season.

A Droid Story

What if the famous RD-D2 and C-3PO shared the spotlight in a series? This appears to be Disney’s project with Star Wars: A Droid Story. Little information has been filtered out about this future content. All we know is that it will tell the adventures of the two droids who come to the aid of a new hero. The latter’s identity is currently unknown. It’s tenuous, but it’s a start… As soon as we know more, we’ll keep you updated in this article.

Tales of the Jedi – Season 2

Dave Filoni announced the renewal of Tales of the Jedi for a second season during Star Wars Celebration 2023. The first season of the animated series notably looked at Count Dooku’s transition to the dark side, the development of his relationship with Qui-Gon Jinn, and the origins of the legendary Ahsoka Tano. Star Wars films are coming to Disney+

Historically, the films are the DNA of the Star Wars saga. It is logical that Disney+ is therefore investing in the production of new feature films to expand the universe of the saga. With at least four films set to enter the catalog in the coming years, let’s recap what we know about these projects so far.

Star Wars: Lando

If there’s one thing fans of Solo: A Star Wars Story, the film that focuses on Han Solo’s youth, want to remember, it’s Lando Calrissian. Donald Glover lent his features to this younger version of the character originally played by Billy Dee Williams and did it brilliantly. While rumors spoke of a new series that would bring the Community actor back in the role, we finally learned that it would be a film directed by Stephen Glover. The actor’s brother, with whom he already worked on the series “Atlanta”, is not revealing anything more for the time being. You can expect us to tell you more as soon as we have more information on this topic. Even if it’s just a release date, teaser or plot details.

A priori, the action will take place between Episodes VI and VII. We will learn much more until 2027planned release year for this project.

Disney+, Star Wars and the media chronology in France

While the original Star Wars series are released directly on Disney+, this is not the case with the films in the saga. They first go through the cinema box and are therefore subject to the media chronology. Do not forget that in France the release of films in digital space and on DVD/Blu-Ray is subject to the media chronology. Only films that launch exclusively on the platforms do not have to follow this system. The Star Wars feature film projects are certainly aiming for a theatrical release, which will delay their release on Disney+.

Here as a reminder Media timeline deadlines since the reform of January 24, 2022:

The rest below this ad

  • DVD/Blu-Ray/digital rental : 4 months after release (3 if the film had fewer than 100,000 admissions)
  • On Canal+, OCS : 6 months after the cinema release
  • On Netflix : 15 months later
  • On Disney+/Prime Video/Streaming : 17 months later
  • Broadcast on television : 22 months after publication

This media chronology gives French streaming providers a priority window, followed by Netflix, which invests heavily in national productions. The latter is also obliged to produce at least 10 French films per year and invest at least 40 million euros in them in order to maintain its 2-month advantage over competing platforms.

Star Wars fans have to wait almost a year and a half after its theatrical release to watch the film legally on streaming.

It’s very likely that Disney will announce more Star Wars productions in the coming months and years. This article will be updated as announcements are made to keep you up to date on developments in the Star Wars universe, both in streaming and in theaters.
