Negotiations will begin at the COP27 world climate conference in Egypt, following the meeting of heads of state and government on Wednesday.
It is about funding climate-related damage and loss in poorer countries, which is on the official agenda for the first time since Sunday’s decision. Fittingly, the topic of funding will also be the focus of the Egyptian presidency presided over by Samih Shoukri on Wednesday.
Start of negotiations at the world climate conference
The conference in Sharm el-Sheikh, in which around 45,000 delegates, observers, activists and journalists are registered, runs until 18 November. Federal President Alexander van der Bellen ended his participation in COP27 this Tuesday. Environment Minister Leonore Gewessler (Greens) will negotiate at the COP from 13 November. As experience has shown that the conference will be extended, the scheduled departure date is November 20th.
