Start of the 10th season of “La Voix”: “When you succeed, the least you can do is give something back” -Mario Pelchat – Le Journal de Montréal

Mario Pelchat once again experienced great emotions as a coach The voice.

Season 10 begins this Sunday on TVA, an edition that is said to be different in that it was recorded entirely last fall. No more live broadcasts, meaning the audience in the studio did not see the blind auditions before voting. In this way he makes his preferences known based on what he hears at that specific stage.

“Somehow the vote could be fairer. There is no bias or attachment, the people there vote for what they hear that night,” said Mario Pelchat in an interview with QMI Agency.

After 40 years of work as a performer and producer, he makes La Voix to “evolve himself” and share his entire background. “Another great season begins, another great opportunity to discover talented artists. What I like to see is their development. That's quick, especially since the recordings took place from October to December this year. They had to make progress in a short period of time.

Mario Pelchat took part in singing competitions at a young age to gain experience and discover himself as an artist. But he wasn't under the pressure of being on Quebec's biggest vaudeville set, cameras and all.

“I don't know how they do it. I probably would have done La Voix too, because when you're young you're a bit careless. At the same time, we want to prove ourselves and show what we have in our stomachs. “We don’t calculate the danger, we don’t see ourselves in danger,” said the man, who celebrates his 60th birthday on February 1st.

Mario Pelchat, who was the new coach last year, saw his finalist Sophie Grenier receive top honors. Will he manage to be the winning coach again? Of course we won't tell you anything.

Mario Pelchat said that at the Blind Auditions he “went there with the same passion as last year” and “loved the diversity”, relying on emotions when deciding whether or not to change his red chair, that he felt.

“I chose each of the performers based on my favorites, based on what seduced me with their voice, their emotion, their diction. A little bit of that is what I try to figure out with an artist, whether they're ready for the adventure, whether what I'm hearing is worth thinking about and developing. I am very proud of the Pelchat team.”

Great chemistry between the coaches

According to Mario Pelchat, the chemistry with the other coaches – Roxane Bruneau, Corneille and France D'Amour – was particularly good this year.

“It went so well, there was a great bond between us. I know Corneille and France well. We didn't know Roxane for long, but she turned out to be a good player, funny, intelligent and with a lot of wit. She took her place,” said the “Crying in the Rain” interpreter, adding, “The production even showed us that we were one of the most united coaching teams.”

Mario Pelchat, who returns to the stage in February for the show Aznavour – Now, values his experience at La Voix so much that he would say yes as coach for the third time in a row tomorrow morning.

“We do La Voix because when you have years of experience, when you have success, the least you can do is give something back. It's about giving others the chance to take their place. This also included my role as producer. I also find it artistically enriching. We see ourselves in those who make this journey.”

The 10th season of La Voix is produced by Productions Déferlantes in collaboration with Quebecor Content and begins Sunday, January 21, at 7 p.m. on TVA.
