The Pittsburgh Steelers have re-signed safety Karl Joseph. The announcement came alongside the team officially announcing the addition of LB Genard Avery.

Although Joseph’s contract terms have not been disclosed, it is likely the league minimum and likely a veteran performance contract.
Karl Joseph had let his contract with the training team expire earlier in the offseason. He became a street free agent at this time. His deal with the Steelers is likely a vet benefits contract with no signing bonus. #Steeler

Joseph signed with the Steelers practice team early in the regular season and spent most of the year doing so. He appeared in two games and recorded 17 defensive snaps and 14 more in special teams. He ended the year with a total of two duels.
His signing will add a little depth of security to the Steelers. Security is currently the weakest position in the squad. All-Pro Minkah Fitzpatrick is the team’s starting free safety, but there is no starting strong safety on the list currently. Terrell Edmunds remains a free agent and while there has been contact with Tyrann Mathieu, no deal seems imminent. Pittsburgh have re-signed Miles Killebrew to a two-year deal, but he’s nothing but a special teamer and player with a big safety package.
A first-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, Joseph spent his first four years with the Raiders before signing with the Cleveland Browns in 2021. He re-signed with the Raiders last offseason before being cut and transferred to the Steelers. Joseph has 49 career starts in his NFL career.
