Steve-O says he’ll never give up on Bam Margera… weeks after his Jackass co-star returned to rehab

Steve-O recently gave an update on longtime friend and Jackass performer Bam Margera, who is currently in rehab for drugs and alcohol.

The 48-year-old former MTV star said in an interview with SiriusXM’s Faction Talk that he would “never give up” on Margera, 43.

“I love him and even if I didn’t love him I will never give him up because that’s how it works,” he told hosts Jim Norton and Sam Roberts.

The longtime TV personality admitted that when he spoke to Margera recently, he “sounded super drunk but was in a good mood.”

After twice escaping court-ordered hospitalization, Bam returned to a rehabilitation center in June.

“It’s so damn crazy that not only does he balk at the idea of committing himself to recovery, but he just literally doesn’t seem to get the concept of the disease,” remarked Steve-O — real name Stephen Gilchrist Glover.

The stuntman explained, “He’s like, ‘Man, if I just keep busy… If I’m not busy with it all the time, I’m going to get in trouble…’ It doesn’t work that way, dude. You think you know that by now.”

Glover, who rose to fame in Margera’s early years, added, “I was physically present at almost every stop on his year-long tour of rehab and mental health facilities.

“I make sure never to try to force sobriety on anyone. I have a strong belief that if you do that, you’re actually throwing them off sobriety,” he said.

That awareness seems to have kept the two stars’ friendship alive, as Steve also said in the session: “When I spoke to him a few nights ago, he said, ‘Dude, you know, I just want to thank you man ’cause you you were always there for me.”

“I say, ‘Yes, I was always there to tell you how awful the situation is.’

In May, Margera marked a “year-long treatment” for drug and alcohol abuse at a Boca Raton facility and planned to attend outpatient treatment courses over the following two months.

But just weeks later, on June 13, he was reported missing from his rehabilitation facility after fleeing town for the second time.

Sheriff’s deputies and a crisis intervention team found the ailing TV star days later at a hotel in Deerfield Beach, Fla., and then transferred him to a different rehab facility.

Margera, a father of one, said he left treatment because he was concerned he would be prevented from seeing his son.
