According to BoxingScene.com Monday, the 27-year-old pugilist would be next up for Kazakhstan’s Janibek Alimkhanuly (13-0-0, 8 KOs). He is a World Boxing Organization (WBO) middleweight champion belt.
The clash would be Alimkhanuly’s second defense and would be featured on the ESPN network.
Butler (32-3-1, 26 KOs) has won his last four games and has two wins before the limit. He is currently sixth in the WBO rankings in his weight class and holds the NABF middleweight belt, a minor title.
This would be Butler’s second chance at the World Cup. In December 2019, he lost to Ryota Murata in Japan for the World Boxing Association (WBA) title.
