During its brutal attack on Israel on October 7, Hamas abducted around 240 people to the Gaza Strip. The number is rising now – because one of the hostages has given birth to a child.
A woman kidnapped in the Gaza Strip by the radical Islamic group Hamas has given birth to a baby, according to the wife of the Israeli head of government. One of the hostages was pregnant when she was kidnapped and has now given birth to a child in captivity, Sara Netanyahu said in a letter to the US first lady, Jill Biden.
“You, like me, can only imagine what must be going through this young mother’s mind as she and her newborn are detained by these killers,” continues the letter, written in English and released by Netanyahu’s office.
In it, Sara Netanyahu spoke of a total of 32 children who were under the control of the Palestinian militant organization or its allies in the Gaza Strip. Among them was a ten-month-old baby.
Netanyahu’s wife calls for “immediate release of children”
According to Israeli reports, Hamas abducted around 240 people from the Gaza Strip during its brutal attack on Israel on October 7. According to the Hostage Family Forum, the ten-month-old baby was Kfir Bibas, who was kidnapped from Kibbutz Nir Oz along with his four-year-old brother Ariel and their parents Jarden and Schiri.
In her letter, Netanyahu’s wife called on Jill Biden to join her in calling for the “immediate release of the children” and the other hostages. According to the Israeli Prime Minister’s office, Sara Netanyahu also wrote to other wives of heads of state around the world.
Qatari mediators are currently trying to reach an agreement between Israel and Hamas for the release of hostages. On Tuesday, US President Joe Biden expressed cautious optimism that such a deal would be reached. But he said nothing more about it.
