The stimulus check application process in Pennsylvania will begin soon. Eligible residents can receive a rebate of up to $1,000 thanks to the expanded rebate program approved by Gov. Josh Shapiro.
In 2023, Governor Shapiro gave the green light to this federal stimulus package, offering property tax relief and rent rebates to Pennsylvania residents. Applications for the additional money can be submitted from January 2024.
Eligible Pennsylvania residents will receive an expanded refund of up to $1,000 in property taxes and rent. Although the program has existed in previous years, it has been renamed the “expanded rebate program” for 2024 to make it more accessible to more Pennsylvania residents.
The new law, called “Act 7 of 2023,” represents the largest tax cut for seniors in nearly two decades, according to the state government. The previous version of the program offered up to $650 per eligible resident. This opportunity will provide up to $1,000 per eligible individual through 2024.
This new legislative session also changed the income limit for renters and homeowners, meaning more Pennsylvanians can benefit from this tax break. This means renters and homeowners with annual incomes of up to $45,000 can receive this discount or financial relief.
The goal of the program expansion is to help an additional 175,000 Pennsylvania residents, joining the 430,000 recipients who have already received relief and will receive a larger refund by 2024.
The Pennsylvania Department of Revenue will begin accepting applications in mid-January 2024. The refund applies to all property and rental taxes paid in 2023, the ValueWalk website reports.
