The intensification of Tropical Storm Bret during the night of June 21/22 prompted the Prefect to bring together the State Services and Météo-France at 6:30 this morning for a situation report.

As the situation develops, the Prefect places Martinique on hurricane red alert.

This decision will come into effect at 12:00 p.m. today.

Bret is still a strong tropical storm with a confirmed trajectory toward the Lesser Antilles. The center will run between St. Lucia and South Martinique. This means that Martinique remains in the high wind zone. In terms of schedule, the center of Bret is expected to pass these islands between late afternoon, early evening and midnight. This is a culmination of the deteriorating weather conditions over this period.
