Storm Cindy intensifies towards Lesser Antilles ( )

Tropical Storm Cindy strengthened on its way to the Lesser Antilles on Saturday (6/24/2023) while Bret dissipated and bottomed out, the US National Hurricane Center (NHC) reported.

The NHC indicated in its most recent bulletin that Cindy, the third tropical storm of the Atlantic hurricane season, is maintaining its maximum sustained wind speed of 60 mph (96 km/h) and is located about 465 miles (750 km) east — Northeast Lesser Antilles.

Cindy emerged from tropical depression number four in the open sea on Thursday evening and in the last few hours its cruising speed has picked up, advancing at 21 miles per hour (33 km/h) towards the Lesser Antilles, although experts are forecasting that to happen in the coming ones Days experience a “gradual weakening”.

Tropical storm force winds extend up to 60 miles (95 km) from the center, and NHC forecasts the system will pass “well northeast of the northernmost Leeward Islands.”

As for Bret, the system is about 160 miles (260 km) west of Colombia’s Guajira Peninsula and has maximum sustained winds of 40 miles per hour (65 km/h).

The remains of Bret are moving west at a speed of 21 miles per hour (33 km/h).

NHC meteorologists are warning that Saturday’s storm surge caused by the remains of Bret will affect coastal areas adjacent to the center of the Caribbean Sea.
