After record heat, thunderstorms hit northern Italy on Friday. At least 110 people were injured in the Veneto region. Severe hailstorms were reported from Seregno in Lombardy. Newspapers showed pictures of hailstones the size of chicken eggs on Saturday.


According to media reports, a man was injured by lightning in Verona while taking shelter under a tree. The newspaper “Corriere della Sera” even spoke of Thursday and Friday nights as a “nightmare”. Hundreds of cars were damaged by the hail.


Footage of a tornado had already caused an uproar on Friday morning. It moved northeast from Milan.
