Philippine authorities this Saturday updated the death toll to 167 after Tropical Storm Megi ripped through the center of the archipelago.

The local authorities made it clear that it is possible that the number of deaths will increase in the coming days, as around 110 people are still missing.

The National Council for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management said the storm, which hit the country from the east coast on April 10, affected about two million people in the Philippines.

The province of Leyte was hardest hit by the phenomenon’s devastation. There the landslides buried Baybay, Abuyog and other cities where rescuers continue their work.

Philippine media reported at least 580 floods and 89 landslides, crippling nine bridges, nearly 70 stretches of highway, more than 10,000 homes and around $5 million worth of crop damage.

Tropical Storm Megi was the first major storm to hit the Philippines this year. The Asian archipelago reports an average of 20 typhoons annually.
