Storm or snowfall, how much to expect?

The snowfall, which is set to hit southern Quebec starting Wednesday evening, will turn into a winter storm as the low-pressure system moves toward the central and eastern sectors of the province.

Environment Canada has issued winter storm and snowfall warnings for the Outaouais and the St. Lawrence River Valley, Estrie and Beauce areas to the tip of Gaspé and far northeastern Quebec.

The first snowflakes will start to fall in the early evening in the greater Montreal area and precipitation should decrease in intensity as the day progresses on Thursday.

The morning rush hour is likely to be difficult on Thursday’s roads due to heavy snowfall, blowing snow and wind.

Snowfall until Thursday evening:

A total accumulation of 10 to 15 centimeters: Les Escoumins – Forestville, Baie Comeau.

15 to 20 centimeters of snow: Gatineau.

15 to 25 centimeters of snow: the regions of Chevery and Blanc-Sablon, Kamouraska – Rivière-du-Loup – Trois-Pistoles, Montmagny – L’Islet, Beauce, Estrie, Quebec, Drummondville – Bois-Francs, Richelieu Valley – Saint-Hyacinthe, Vaudreuil – Soulanges – Huntingdon, Lachute – Saint-Jérôme, Lanaudière, Mauricie, Saguenay, Metropolitan Montreal – Laval.

20 to 30 centimeters of snow: Natashquan, Minganie, Sept-Îles – Port-Cartier, Anticosti, Forillon National Park – Gaspé – Percé, Sainte-Anne-des-Monts – Grande-Vallée, Gaspésie National Park – Murdochville, Amqui – Matapédia Valley, Matane, Temiscouata, Rimouski – Mont-Joli.
