The pair performed a salsa on Saturday but things didn’t go to plan and they found themselves at the bottom of the leaderboard.

Still, Tony and Adam progressed to the next round after having a “heated argument” during the closing moments of Strictly on Saturday.

Tony made a number of mistakes during his performance and Katya admitted she yelled at him afterwards.

But as Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly wrapped up the show, Tony could be seen talking animatedly to the pro dancer, who had her back to the camera.

Tony and Katya were hoping to improve on their highest scores of the past week with a salsa to Pitbull’s “I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho).”

Unfortunately it wasn’t to be as the judges had some mixed comments about the performance.

Craig Revel Horwood simply told the pair, “It didn’t work out tonight – it’s a shame,” while Motsi Mabuse struggled to elicit a compliment as she uttered, “You’ve tried so hard… Things go on in life… Pick up you crown, get out there and salsa it out!’

While Shirley Ballas tried to stay positive by praising Tony’s rotations and “fearless” lifts, she added that it was an “absolute disgrace” that he acted on the wrong foot and made “too many mistakes”.

Following Claudia, Tony said: “I was too busy having fun!

“The crowd was packed and it was great, then I looked down there and I was like, ‘Oh sugar, what’s going on?’

Web has reached out to representatives from Tony, Katya and the BBC for comment.

The week seven live show ended with Hamza and Jowita topping the leaderboard with 38, while Tony and Katya finished with just 21 out of 40 points.

Elsewhere, Craig left BBC viewers furious after giving “harsh” feedback and a low score to comedian Ellie Taylor and her professional partner Johannes Radebe.

Craig awarded Ellie and her partner Johannes a disappointing C for their rumba on Heart’s ‘Alone’ – despite topping the leaderboard last week.

Commenting on the performance, Craig said, “Actually, I found it a bit stiff. It felt like you were just walking around.’

Motsi tagged the routine a seven along with Anton, while Shirley gave the pair a five. It didn’t take long for outraged viewers to question the low scores.

Head judge Shirley said there was a “complete lack of fluidity and flexibility,” adding that she wasn’t doing them a “disservice” by padding things out.

Fans took to Twitter to offer their opinion on Craig’s vote, with one writing, “I usually agree with Craig but this 3 was overly harsh.”

Another said: “The biggest injustice of the night – Craig gave Ellie a three and scored higher for Tony Adams.”

A third wrote: “I’m really upset that Craig Tony scored a 4 and Ellie T scored a 3.”

One commented: “Wow talk about character assassination just saw it on #Strictly done by Shirley Ballas and Craig Revel Horwood both didn’t like Ellie from the start this vote blew her away.”

“I’m really sorry for Ellie T. She’s really disappointed and a 3 from Craig didn’t think it was too bad,” wrote another.

A Twitter user added: “I’ve seen rumbas that were way worse than these on #Strictly rated more than 3… Sorry for #Ellie and #Johannes. Sure it wasn’t perfect, but I still thought it looked nice. Definitely higher than a 3!’

Many fans were furious that Craig Tony and Katya scored a four after Ellie’s disappointing three.
