Strictly’s Adam Thomas admits he struggled with self-doubt as he overcame his debilitating illness to perform – and praises his “incredible” wife Caroline for supporting him

Strictly Come Dancing star Adam Thomas has admitted he was plagued by self-doubt as he overcame a debilitating illness to appear on the show.

Speaking to The Sun, the 35-year-old Waterloo Road actor expressed that the workload is incredibly challenging as he has very little time for his family.

Adam, who was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis earlier this year, admitted he had suffered health setbacks due to his joint condition and had to miss training due to a recent flu outbreak.

He said: “It’s been an emotional few days because it’s so tiring because of the workload.” “Some days are harder than others but it’s worth it.”

Despite the difficulties, the Waterloo Road actor said he is aware that taking part in the show is only temporary and is therefore trying to make the most of it.

Adam, who married 32-year-old Caroline Daly in 2017, went on to describe his wife as “incredible”.

In a candid tribute, he said he appreciates their unwavering support in managing their family and household responsibilities while he is immersed in rehearsals.

Adam gushed about the blonde beauty, who he has been with for 15 years, and highlighted her commitment to their two children Teddy, nine, and Elsie, five, especially when it came to managing school runs and domestic tasks.

In the candid chat, Adam admitted he struggled with self-doubt at times due to coming from a family of TV personalities, which also included his brother Ryan and twin Scott.

However, over the course of his Strictly journey he has discovered a growing inner confidence and is now really proud of his progress on the show and has learned to believe in himself more.

He said, “It turns out I’m good enough and I should believe in myself a little more.”

“I’m really proud of what I’ve done on the show so far.”

It came after Adam left his wife Caroline in tears during Saturday night’s show after she performed a heartbreaking rumba.

Adam and his professional partner Luba performed to Calum Scott’s rendition of ‘Dancing on My Own’ and when the performance ended, Caroline could be seen wiping tears from her eyes.

Claudia Winkleman said: ‘I know this song means so much to you, your wife had tears in her eyes’, to which Adam exclaimed: ‘Yes, that was our wedding song.’ It was really special.’

Fans are convinced the Waterloo Road actor will be eliminated from the competition at Sunday’s results show after he survived the dance-off last week.

Bookmakers have also named Adam as the favorite to be voted out at 8/11, while Angela Scanlon is eliminated alongside Annabel Croft at 9/2.
