Strictly's Amy Dowden, 33, reveals she was rushed to hospital after suffering breathing problems as she shares pictures from the ward during her battle with breast cancer

Pure professional dancer Amy Dowden shared on Instagram on Monday that she was hospitalized last week.

The 33-year-old star revealed she was placed on a respiratory care unit during her battle with breast cancer as she shared pictures from her hospital bed.

Keeping her fans updated, she wrote: “So last week didn't go quite according to plan. “I'm feeling much better now and I'm still taking it easy.

“But I can’t thank the NHS enough and the care I received in the respiratory ward.” Also to my family and Ben, of course. I would always drop everything and spend endless hours next to my bed, mostly sleeping.

“I'm feeling much better and thanks for all the messages after I got calm.” Today I'm in the oncology ward for my monthly injection (I missed it last week due to a bad condition).

The Wales-born star managed to take a romantic day trip to a spa with her husband Ben, where she was pampered like a queen.

Amy and Ben enjoyed the spa at the award-winning Hoar Cross Hall Hotel in Staffordshire, which has one of the largest state-of-the-art spas in Europe.

fAmy told her online followers: “After feeling really unwell for the last few days (bad cough), thank you for a lovely spa day today Ben.”

She also shared pictures from their relaxing day, including one of them smiling together in their fluffy bathrobes and one of herself sitting in a large spherical rattan chair.

Amy was diagnosed with breast cancer in May last year and had a mastectomy in July, forcing her to stay away from the BBC ballroom dancing competition in 2023 during treatment.

Her friend, Dragon's Den star Sara Davies, who competed on Strictly in 2021, recently revealed that she had to convince Amy to go ahead with the treatment she was offered because Amy was worried she would miss out on her Strictly career.

Businesswoman Sara said Amy was “hardwired” to dance from a young age and the thought of taking time out to focus on her health scared her.

Sara said on the Invite Only podcast: “I spent a lot of time with her at the beginning of her cancer diagnosis when she wasn't feeling well. “She had been dealt a bad hand and was struggling with it.

“I knew then that I had to be the friend who fills up her tank, but even if all you want is someone to hug you and tell you everything is going to be okay, I'm not the one.

“I was the one who asked, 'What's the plan, Amy?' and push them to make difficult decisions. She wasn’t sure if she would have chemo, so we talked about it.”

She added: “What I've found with the dancers is that they're wired to dance from a young age.” And the biggest blow to her was: “If I don't go down that path, I won't be able to do Strictly this year. “

“I had to look her in the eyes and say, ‘Amy, you have cancer. They literally just cut off your chest. They tell you that you need this chemotherapy to get better. Don't worry about dancing and strict”.

“Their response was, 'But maybe they don't want me back next year.' So I said, 'Amy, you're great at what you do, of course they're going to want you back.' You're so popular. Please, it's really important. Get well soon.”

“And then she went into the show without a wig. What a phenomenal moment. When I saw her I cried.'
