Strike at RTC: agreement in principle reached between union and employer –

An agreement in principle was reached between the Capital Transport Network (RTC) and the drivers’ union during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday.

Despite this agreement, the strike is going on and awaiting approval from union members, who are expected to decide on its content later in the afternoon.

“The service will therefore not be offered on Capital Transport Network routes,” the union said in a statement.

The CSN-affiliated union will end the 11-day strike if its members ratify the agreement in principle, without giving further details.

“Excellent news!” said Labor Minister Jean Boulet early Wednesday morning by sharing the news on Twitter.

Nothing is currently known about the content of this agreement, but the dispute that underlay the strike related in particular to salary conditions.

The approximately 935 bus drivers at the RTC are demanding salary increases, flexible working hours and adjustments to subcontracting.

Agreement approved by the RTC Board

On Wednesday morning, the board of directors of the RTC ratified the agreement in principle during a virtually organized meeting.

The 935 bus drivers are due to vote on the document, of which no details are currently known, during a general assembly starting at 1pm on Wednesday at the Defairs Centre. If the agreement is ratified, bus services would resume tomorrow (Thursday) morning.
