Striving to advance women in sport –

To strive to empower girls and women in sports, nature and physical activity, the Quebec government has brought together several professionals and organizations including La Lancee.

According to a recent Léger survey, 53% of women aged 17 to 25 surveyed consider doing less physical activity today than they did when they were teenagers.

“I was surprised to see the magnitude of the decline in physical activity, but in some ways we already know that girls are less active than boys,” says Tatiana Polevoy, editor-in-chief of La Lancee. “It’s this cycle that we’re quietly trying to break.”

To encourage girls and young women to get active, the organization La Lancee also emphasizes the importance of an active life by organizing untimed sporting events.

“There is a strong correlation between being active and being a leader in sports, in nature and in physical activity,” says Polevoy. “We need to open our eyes to this situation and talk about inspiring role models, we spread their stories because there are girls who are making a name for themselves in the world of sport.”
