Also in Syria
According to media reports, the earthquake was also felt in neighboring provinces in northern Syria, in Israel, Iraq and Lebanon. In several places near the city of Aleppo, houses collapsed again, a spokeswoman for the humanitarian organization SAMS said. Among them is the small town of Djindiris, close to the Turkish border, which was hit hard by the earthquake two weeks ago. New victims have arrived at at least four of the organization’s clinics – including a child in cardiac arrest who can be resuscitated. It was initially unclear whether houses had collapsed in Turkey.
A resident near the Syrian city of Aleppo said the tremor was as strong as two weeks ago but did not last as long. “It scared people and sent them running into the streets,” said the man named Abdel Kafi. “Many people have left their homes and are wandering the streets in fear that more[terremotos]happen”, including in the Syrian capital, Damascus, wrote the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) spokesperson for the region, Rula Amin on Twitter.
