Study warns of relevance symptoms of prolonged Covid

post covid syndrome, also known as long covid or prolonged covid, can impair memory and concentration, according to the results of a new online study called COVID and cognition (COVCOG)for its English acronym, by a team of British scientists.

The study is based on 18 months of surveillance of 181 patients recruited between October 2020 and March 2021 aims to document the persistence of their symptoms, reports Russia Today.

“This is important evidence that when people say they have cognitive difficulties postCovid, it’s not necessarily the result of anxiety or depression. The impact is quantifiable: something worrying is happening,” Muzaffer Kaser, one of the study’s authors, said in a statement from the University of Cambridge.

Seven out of 10 of the 181 study participants admitted problems with concentration and memory months after being infected. Specifically, 68% suffered from episodes of forgetfulness and 60% could not find the right words when speaking.

Scientists will continue to follow those observed to document how persistent the symptoms of a prolonged Covid will be. (ALH)
