“Being happy means not having any regrets,” said the ex-defender at a press conference during the first break. You learn from all situations in life.
“It’s been a privilege for me to play hockey, and not just in the NHL. It was a privilege to wear the Montreal Canadiens jersey. You can’t take these things for granted.”
It was Geoff Molson who contacted Subban for this tribute night.
“It happened shortly after the announcement of my resignation,” he specified. He called me and after a good conversation I accepted. When one of the greatest organizations in the history of sport wants to honor you, the decision is easy to make.
“It was a very emotional moment. I don’t really like to show my feelings, but what makes me better. I’m glad I had my family with me.”

Throughout his career, Subban has often harassed his teammates in the locker room. The stories are varied. His extravagant style got in the way.
The main prospect doesn’t worry about people’s perception of him.
“I can’t speak to anyone else’s opinion,” Subban said. I’ve made my career by not caring about other people. I didn’t try to please everyone.
“People will describe you in many ways. I don’t like the word “polarizing” when people talk about me. If you talk to people who know me, they won’t use that word.
“If I played basketball or soccer or any other sport, I wouldn’t be so polarizing because of the characters in those sports. It’s all a matter of perception.
“It’s part of the world we live in. I won’t sleep on it.”
Memories and French
Subban has many fond memories of his time in Montreal. It’s hard for him to choose one.
“Tonight’s party is one of them. I’ve never been happier than the moment I was drafted by the team and Bob Gainey presented me with a jersey. It’s a moment I’ll never forget.
“Tonight a dream will come true. Being in that situation and having Geoff (Molson) by my side to watch my video meant a lot to me.
During his tribute, the former defender showed class and respect for Quebec fans by greeting and thanking them in French.
“Playing in front of these fans (those at the Bell Center) is amazing. I hope that one day all athletes will have the chance and not just hockey players. I’ve never taken anything for granted.
“It’s a very special place. You have to bring the same energy as the fans who applaud you every night. That’s why I got a lot of respect from them.
“I haven’t won a Stanley Cup here, but I’ve earned their respect by working hard on the ice. It wasn’t perfect, but I gave it my all.”
