Kitchen cabinet manufacturer Milmonde is reinventing its workflows thanks to automation and robotization. The company invested several million dollars to double its production capacity.
To carry out this project, Milmonde received a non-repayable grant of $1.19 million from the Quebec Ministry of Natural Resources and Forests.
This investment, combined with other investments made by the SME, allowed the manufacturer based in Notre-Dame-Des-Pins, Beauce, to modernize its processes and make them more ecological.
“Last January we inaugurated a completely automated painting line. We enter the door. It is sandblasted, painted and dried before we take it out for quality control,” explains Jean-Michel Talbot, engineer and president of the company.
Mr Talbot took over the SME in 2021. The company, founded in 1978, employs around fifty people. Quality control is continuous and is combined with control and artificial intelligence algorithms. Further significant changes were also made to the paint shop.
“This results in us having a paint whose durability is at a higher level. We also have a lower level of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which is more environmentally friendly,” the owner continued.
This achievement is the first phase of a high-tech transformation that will also include the commercialization of a “world-first nanotechnology paint.” On this subject, Mr Talbot would prefer to wait before revealing details as the process is still in the research and development phase.
With this addition it will soon be possible to achieve the 0% VOC target. Milmonde wants to become the most environmentally friendly company in its industry. Ever-growing SMEs are booming in Ontario, the Maritimes and the Eastern United States.
