“Succession” series tops Emmy races with 27 nominations

series successor HBO’s dark, somber chronicle of a powerful family tearing itself apart to take control of a media empire won the Emmy race on Wednesday, with 27 nominations for the television equivalent of the Oscars.

She will specifically focus on the post-apocalyptic road movie “The Last of Us” and “The White Lotus,” which haunts the neuroses of luxury vacationers in Sicily — two other HBO productions that received 24 and 23 nominations, respectively.

In terms of comedy, Ted Lasso, who follows the adventures of an American football coach who parachutes into an English football team, sits in pole position with 21 nominations.

In the miniseries, two Netflix productions stand out, each with 13 nominations: “Relentless,” a battle game set in Los Angeles between two pretty pissed off Asian drivers, and “Dahmer: The Story of Jeffrey Dahmer,” based on the story of a famous American serial killer.

The 75th Emmy Awards, scheduled for September 18, could be postponed in the event of an actors’ strike in Hollywood, which is expected to begin as early as midnight Los Angeles time on Wednesday.

A small group of bosses appealed to the Washington government to send mediators. But despite actors’ union SAG-AFTRA agreeing to such mediation, relations remain strained and the prospect of a strike looms large.

“We are in the negotiation process and will examine and explore all avenues to reach an agreement. However, we are not convinced that employers have any intention of negotiating,” SAG-AFTRA said in a statement released Tuesday night.

A comedian strike would be tantamount to a Hollywood star boycott of the Emmys. In view of this prospect, according to the American press, the production is already considering postponing the event to November or even next year.
