He put a handkerchief in her mouth and then strangled her to death to steal her money. This is how 74-year-old Englishwoman Lesley Pearson, who lived in a villa in Algar, died Spain. The woman’s body was found lying in a pit and covered in quicklime near the house ten days after her disappearance in July 2019. but Pearson’s death revealed a family secret which further annoys the bereaved. Lesley’s brother Steve Ramsbottom revealed, the Sun reports, that investigators in the case discovered through DNA that he and his sister had different fathers.

It came as a shock to the man to discover that his sister Lesley was actually only his half-sister, a secret he could never have imagined. “Lesley’s body was in an advanced state of decomposition so the Spanish police who were trying to identify the body asked me for a DNA sample as my brother and only living relative. But the test – the man explained – showed that we had different fathers! I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.’ Steve, a 74-year-old father of two, lives in Rossendale, Lancashire and when he learned of his sister’s death he flew to help the police with their investigation. “When I got to Spain I asked if I could see Lesley but they told me the body was unrecognizable. So they asked me if they could do a DNA test and I said yes straight away,” the victim’s brother said.

The first test was inconclusive, so they had to take another one. The second examination clearly showed that the two had different parents. “Both my mother and father – added Steve Ramsbottom – were dead and there was nobody left to ask. My father Stan fought in World War II and didn’t return home until June 1945. Lesley was born on April 4, 1945. Dad hadn’t returned home in the meantime, but no one had connected the facts. Never in a thousand years had any of us suspected anything like this. Growing up we didn’t put two and two together and it never occurred to me or Les,” he concluded.
