Seven countries, 17 cities and one global pandemic later, The amazing race there is finally crowned the winners of Season 33.
While best friends Ryan and Dusty led the pack in the early stages of Competition, married YouTubers Kim and Penn kicked him in high gear, winning three straight legs in a row along the way. But entering the final on Wednesday, Raquel and Kayla were gaining serious money. Despite their fair share of running errors, the two flight attendants came together to secure their first win of the season just last week.
But we all know it only takes time one finished first to win this solid $ 1 million prize. So who went home with the money? Let’s summarize the last two games of the season.
ROUTE INFORMATION | All teams are undertaking a charter flight from Greece to Portugal, the westernmost country in Europe, for the penultimate stage of the competition. Once there, they must reach the Fortale De São Filipe in Setúbal, Portugal. With only four pairs left, each duo is aware that there is no room for error. The finish line is visible and everyone is staring at the prize.
Kim and Penn are the first to find the location and notice from the top of the castle Competitionthe symbolic colors of the flag below. The other three teams are right behind them, with only Ryan and Dusty descending the main slider in wrong direction. It will cost them.
ROAD BLOCK | In Who Wants to Explore, teams must choose a boat named after a researcher and row to the other side of the marina. But mixed with boats are vessels with random names of celebrities on them. If they make the wrong choice, they go back to the beginning.
Kim and Raquel take on the challenge, but Kim doesn’t recognize any of the names. She took a risk with Fernão de Magalhães (also known as Ferdinand Magellan) and started rowing. Raquel correctly chooses Bartholomew Diaz, while Arun chooses Antonio Guterres, the former Prime Minister of Portugal. (Listen, I’d like to see Natalia and Arun in the final stage, but let’s be real.) Finally, Ryan chooses Fernando Pessoa, a Portuguese poet. Ru-roh.
After fighting for what seems like forever, Arun decides to change boats with Vasco da Gama (correct answer), but Ryan defeats him to the blow and catches him.
Kim is the first, and the YouTube team begins their walk to the Mercearia Confianca de Troino restaurant. where they have to choose a box of sardines and paint its image on a wooden door.
As the first three teams start painting, Arun gets the bad news that he is Guterres no Explorer. His next choice is Pedro Alvarez Cabral, which really brings him the clue.
Raquel and Kayla finish their painting after their second check and start the journey from Santuario to Cabo Espichel to find their next clue … but leave their precious card behind! (He’s not the first team to do this, and he certainly won’t be the last.) It doesn’t take them long to realize the mistake, and panic sets in quickly.
ROAD BLOCK | Kim and Penn arrive at the second road block, where they are tasked with counting the church’s 106 columns as they stand. When they get the right number, they will be directed to the next Pit Stop, a lighthouse that is off in the distance. Penn says he and Kim have pretty bad eyesight (“Evolutionarily, we’d be eaten by tigers by now,” he says.) Raquel and Kayla arrive second, and Kayla solves the task on her first try. (Impressive!) But after a few more guesses, Penn and Kim overtake them in the race to the finals.
PITSTOP | Raquel and Kayla arrive first, winning a trip for two to St. Lucia. Kim and Penn finished second, while Ryan and Dusty finished third in the final. As for Natalia and Arun, their race officially ends here.
THE LAST STAGE BEGINS! | The teams say adeus to Portugal to Fly to CompetitionThe final destination of: Los Angeles. The following route information tells them that they need to unlock their clue using a combination that goes up and down. Raquel and Kayla quickly concluded that the code was on the outside of an elevator, and soon began their journey to the El Pueblo de Los Angeles monument. Kim and Penn also get clues, leaving Dusty and Ryan behind to scratch their heads forever.
ROUTE INFORMATION | The first two teams arrive at the same time and have to find three pieces of evidence by smashing many pinatas. In addition, one member of the team is blindfolded and must listen to instructions from his partner. Raquel and Kayla first retrieve all three clues and go to Sir Hollywood. Kim finally finds her last pinata, a little donkey, and the couple leaves before Ryan and Dusty even show their faces.
The flight attendants arrive at the next task, which is to add foul sounds to five classics Amazing race scenes (in case you need to see the face of a watermelon smash 50 more times – which yes, we definitely do). Using ordinary objects such as beach balls, a bucket of water, etc., they should recreate the right sounds for the already famous scenes, which includes the classic “my ox is broken!” A bit.
Kim and Penn catch up and remind us that video editing and lip sync are all their strengths. If there was an ideal time for married people to take the lead, it would be him. Just kidding! Raquel and Kayla finally make the right noises and head to Dignity Health Sports Park to find their next clue! But man, do they have any competition! Kim and Penn lick their heels.
MEMORY TEST | Teams must correctly answer questions that test them for all countries and tasks they have encountered during the season. Kim and Penn, and Raquel and Kayla arrive almost at the same time. They ask questions about the words they have heard, the portraits they have painted, and some little gnome who joins them by the leg. The flight attendants seem to be able to handle everything quickly, but Kim’s stellar note-taking is helpful. (HELLO, HAS ANYONE CHECKED DUSTY AND RYAN ?!)
The most difficult question comes down to the specific coin that was hidden under the rocks. Raquel and Kayla seem to fall apart, but then both teams begin to change the answers they originally had correct. (Okay, that’s stressful and I’m just summary $ 1 million race!)
WHO WON? | At the end of the two-hour affair, Kim and Penn complete their quiz, compete at the football stadium and are crowned as the new winners in The amazing race!! Raquel and Kayla are second (after a hell of a fight), leaving Ryan and Dusty in third.
