Canal Caribe.- There are two weeks left until the Summit of the Americas in Los Angeles, USA. Many unknowns weigh on the organization of this hemispheric event. A growing number of leaders in the region are calling for all countries to be present. Her claim continues without a clear answer. And amid uncertainty over who will be attending the event, the US government has trimmed the guest list like someone spoiling their own party. Cristina Escobar puts the news from our studies in the Cuban capital into context for us.
Of possible phantom peaks and their omens

“She stayed like a village bride in her wedding dress,” said the grandmothers when someone stopped or their expectations were not met.
And so it appears Biden will be leaving next month, because it is estimated that out of the 35 nations scheduled to attend the Summit of the Americas, about 25 have announced their absence because they want to exclude Cuba, Venezuela or make such an announcement of the White House without halfway questioning or generally not sharing its goals and positions, especially around the meeting.
If the math doesn’t work out, no meeting can be guaranteed to be a success with less than 30 percent truly proactive attendance. All the more so when, as in this case, democracy, migration and economic development are at stake.
Like a bad suspense novel, it’s announced in cyberspace that some of the invitees have already left the White House, that if they reconsider, no one knows for sure…
But what we all know for sure is that Latin America and the Caribbean are no longer the same.
Even if they do end up reconsidering decisions in Washington – quite unlikely – it is already a fact that their announcements about excluded guests represent a major strategic error.
Political scientist Matías Bianchi, professor at the University of Arizona and Director of Southern Affairs, commented on his Twitter account: “Biden would not read properly what has happened in the region in the last five years and what is happening now. Several countries in the region now have left-wing governments and that also creates a different space. It seems to be more than a boycott of these countries, it seems to be a coherent position».
More than apparent, the pronouncements of so many leaders in the region speak not only of coherence, but also that the correlation of forces has become very interesting, at least in this part of the planet, blurring the unipolarity of other times.
As in the past five years, the voices of this part of the world are being heard louder and clearer, demanding respect, not interference, and crying out for the dignity of our peoples and their sovereignty; In equal parts, the imperial hegemony that intends to seize an entire continent under its control, though still dangerous and pernicious, is waning.
The forthcoming Los Angeles summit, likely with many empty chairs and therefore almost a ghost meeting, will be an interesting omen of how the scales may tip even more. The preambles of this meeting already announce it.
