The Minnesota Vikings and Denver Broncos are both on a roll right now and looking to bounce back from seasons that started so poorly. And so far they have been successful.
The Vikings started the season a dismal 0-3 and bottomed out at 1-4 against the Chiefs before beginning their climb. Since then, they have won five straight while managing to overcome and overcome one of the worst losses a team can suffer: a season-ending injury to their quarterback. Kirk Cousins tore his Achilles tendon in Week 8 against the Green Bay Packers, and then his backup, Jaren Hall, suffered a concussion during his Week 9 start.
Enter Josh Dobbs, Minnesota’s savior. He was hired as Hall’s replacement just days before their Week 9 game against the Falcons and led them to a win, despite literally learning the plays on the sideline before replacing Hall. The following week, Dobbs played against the New Orleans Saints and extended her winning streak to five.
The Broncos have a slightly reduced three-game winning streak, but they will defend it vehemently. After a truly rotten 2022 season, no one was surprised when Denver went 1-5 through its first six games. But against a less than stellar Packers team in Week 7, they broke through with a 19-17 victory. The next week they completely stunned the Chiefs 24-9 and then earned a walk-off field goal victory over the Bills in Week 10. The Broncos definitely felt great this week, and they deserved it.
But neither winning streak will survive the night. It’s the magic of Josh Dobbs of the Vikings against the resurgent comeback Broncos. One team will go home happy, and the other team will just go home.
