According to a report by the exiled medium Meduza, at least 37 sailors died when the Russian flagship Moskva sank. There are also dozens of wounded and missing.
A total of about 500 sailors would be on the ship. According to the report, several military servicemen were among the victims.
The Russian Defense Ministry had previously stated that the ship had been fully evacuated. According to Russia, the “Moskva” sank in a stormy sea as a result of an munitions explosion. Ukraine, on the other hand, claims the ship sank after several rocket launches.
photos came to light
More recently, images appeared online for the first time that were supposed to show the “Moskva” in flames. The recordings are believed to be authentic by experts – but this cannot be verified at this time. Several fake images of the damaged warship had already appeared on the internet.
This is the Russian flagship #Moskva before she sinks. It is impossible to fully assess the situation on board based on an image, but marine salvage masters must make assumptions based on little information. The images that have now emerged show a ship with dark smoke pouring out of its command center – it can also be assumed that the ship was already in a tilted position at the time the photo was taken. Also, photos must show bullet holes and open areas on the outside of the boat. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said he could not confirm the authenticity of the recordings. “Yes, we’ve actually seen these photos; but to what extent they are authentic and correspond to reality, we cannot say,” said Peskow.
