Sunrise presenter Edwina Bartholomew backs radical proposal for ‘adults-only suburbs’ so childless people can enjoy ‘peace and tranquility’

Edwina Bartholomew supports the idea of adult-only suburbs and venues for childless people looking for some peace and quiet.

Although she’s a mother of two young children herself, the Sunrise news anchor says she understands the benefits of keeping children off-limits.

“I think it’s a brilliant idea,” she wrote in her News Corp column. ‘I love my children. I love their company, but I don’t like the sound of someone else’s child screaming.’

Edwina, who gave birth to her second child in March last year, said she sympathizes with adults who don’t have children.

“I recently took my kids to one of these art installations where the works of famous artists are projected onto the walls,” she explained.

“All my three year old wanted to do was run around chasing her shadow on Monet’s water lilies.

“I found myself silencing them as pompous artist types glared at us, preferring to contemplate the exhibition in contemplative silence.”

Edwina shares daughter Molly, three, and son Tom, 11 months, with husband Neil Varcoe. The couple married in 2018.

The Channel Seven star’s comments come after a Melbourne TikToker called out adult-only suburbs.

The 27-year-old woman, known as Baby Soy, said in the video, which has since gone viral, that these spaces must be created for people like her who “hate children”.

She said she was “so sick” of children disturbing the “peace and tranquility” of swimming pools and other common areas.

“I’d like to know when anyone plans to open an adults-only suburb where everything is adults-only,” the TikToker said.

Her anger arose after she went swimming in a pool and children jumped in and out of her lap path, preventing people from moving.

“They have their own pool and they’re in the lap lane pool, not swimming laps and just jumping in screaming, and that’s only allowed because they’re allowed anywhere,” she said.

“I just feel like people like me who are evil and hate children should have our own suburb where we can just be quiet and undisturbed.”
