Sunrise star Edwina Bartholomew and her “exhausted” husband hit a hurdle renovating their 177-year-old country hotel in NSW amid plans to reopen the property for business

In May this year she bought a 177-year-old country hotel in rural NSW.

And on Wednesday, Sunrise presenter Edwina Bartholomew shared an update with her husband Neil Varcoe on renovations to the property, which she plans to reopen for business.

Edwina and her husband, who share children Molly, three, and Tom, one, bought the run-down property in rural New South Wales in March for $2.1 million.

The 39-year-old newscaster-turned-real estate salesman said the couple had to overcome hurdles along the way because the farm is part of a heritage town.

“As with any renovation and construction project, there are various ups and downs,” she told realestate.com.au.

“Since the 1970s the entire city has been subject to fairly strict heritage protection regulations, and for good reason, because that’s what fascinated us about it: its beautiful history, the beautiful buildings and the well-preserved main street facade.”

“We wanted to make sure we achieved the same thing with our project, but of course that means adhering to heritage guidelines and heritage colors.”

Edwina said she limited herself to changing the structure and colors of the original building.

The TV star also explained that she had decided on a name but was forced to choose a new name after the renaming.

In September, Edwina’s husband Neil looked exhausted in pictures Edwina posted from the property.

“Today is a very exciting day. “We received the first plans for the garden at Victoria from Studio UC,” wrote an excited Edwina alongside a series of design photos.

However, Neil appeared less than thrilled in the pictures after the father-of-three previously expressed reservations about the arduous project.

Edwina’s caption continued: “They are exactly what we imagined.” Imagine a beautiful vegetable garden, an outdoor cooking and dining area, an orchard with chickens, an imaginative play area for children and lots of birch, rose and native trees Plants before.”

She added: “We have a year and a bit of work ahead of us, but it really feels like the plans are taking shape and we can start transforming.”

Victoria’s landscape plans showed Edwina’s plans to create extensive gardens and outdoor dining and entertaining areas throughout the property.

Her vision board, which she also shared with her followers, painted a picture of an old farmhouse style with a long outdoor dining table and dilapidated fences.

In May, Edwina shared a video on Instagram showing off her new property in Carcoar, 260 kilometers west of Sydney.

Known as The Victoria Hotel, the property was built in 1846.

The video was shot inside the two-story historic property and its stunning architectural design, including a beautiful balcony and French windows.

“In 1846 it was built on the banks of the Belubula River in Carcoar. “177 years later, the Victoria returns to the same grounds to welcome a new generation of guests,” she wrote.

“A new chapter for the city’s forgotten time.” A new full-time project for us. A new side hustle for me in addition to waking up with you every morning on @sunriseon7.

“Reopening in 2025 (with many updates to Fawlty Towers by then),” she added.
