House of the Dragon actress Milly Alcock has landed the coveted role of Supergirl in James Gunn and Peter Safran's new DC Universe.

Australian-born Alcock played young Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in the first season of HBO's Game of Thrones spinoff House of the Dragon.

She beat CODA actresses Emilia Jones and Meg Donnelly, the latter who portrayed Supergirl in DC animated films such as Legion of Superheroes and Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Part One.

Alcock is repped by CAA, Shanahan Management, Entertainment 360 and Curtis Brown.

There have been rumors that the new Supergirl will appear in Gunn's Superman Legacy, which is coming to cameras in Georgia, but that's not 100% true. What we know now is that she will appear in a DC-based project before starring in her solo film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. No director has yet been announced for Supergirl, the project first announced at DC Studio Press Day a year ago. It is based on Tom King's 2022 comic series, whose illustrator was Bilquis Evely

At the time of this announcement, Gunn said: “In our series we see the difference between Superman, who has been sent to Earth since childhood and raised by loving parents, and Supergirl, who was raised on a rock a short distance from Krypton. “, and watched everyone around her die and be killed in horrific ways for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to Earth as a young girl. She is much tougher; She’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re used to.”
