In the midst of a succession of welcome heat, an element we thought was gone now shows up: Frost.

Mercury is likely to approach freezing in much of Belle province overnight Monday. High altitude sectors are particularly vulnerable.

Those who have already planted their seedlings are encouraged by the good weather and risk a nasty surprise. Bringing the plants indoors whenever possible would be the best solution.

A second frost episode is also possible at the beginning of next week thanks to the passage of a cold front. However, it would be more local.

Nothing unusual

This risk of frost is normal for certain sectors, particularly in southern Quebec. Urban heat islands often act like ramparts. Indeed, in the last days of April, Montreal, for example, can say goodbye to this phenomenon in general.

However, for most of the territory it is still part of the routine. The Sept-Îles region, for example, often has to wait until the end of May before turning the page on ground frost. Same scenario for Estrie and Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean.

For Gaspésie and Abitibi-Témiscamingue, that moment doesn’t come until early June.
