As the war between Russia and Ukraine approaches its eighth week, Project DYNAMO manages to continue evacuation missions for the most vulnerable groups.
Among the 60 people the rescue organization recently evacuated, five were surrogate mothers who carry children to American parents. They are currently staying at a “safe place” in Ukraine, codenamed Club DYNAMO.

“We are just relieved that these missions were successful and that everyone involved was safely dispatched,” said Bryan Stern, co-founder of Project DYNAMO, in a statement.
The mothers and others were evacuated from Ukrainian cities under attack including Kharkiv, Dnipro, Kherson, Nickolaev and Kakhovka, according to a Project DYNAMO press release.
“As indiscriminate attacks intensify, injuring and killing scores of civilians, these rescues of civilians, including pregnant surrogates, become even more compelling and difficult given the dynamic threat environment,” he continued.

Project DYNAMO reports that its volunteer team members have conducted five successful rescue operations to remove Ukrainian surrogates from dangerous war zones.
The organization has codenamed AQUARIUS these rescue operations, which Project DYNAMO launched following the success of its Gemini rescue mission in March, when three babies were evacuated from Kyiv.
At Club DYNAMO, rescued surrogate mothers can remain in the “safe abode” or other safe location of their choice.
Two of those rescued babies were premature twins named Lenny and Moishe, who were born via surrogate. This experience opened many eyes to the needs of Ukrainian surrogates.

Ukraine is a popular surrogacy destination for international parents. It is a commercialized industry in the Eastern European country; The cost of the alternative reproductive method is widely considered more affordable, FOX Business reported in mid-March.

To date, Project DYNAMO has rescued and reunited more than a dozen surrogate babies with their intended parents who live in the US, Canada and the UK
The nonprofit rescue organization said more than 100 surrogates have requested evacuation assistance from combat zones, including Mariupol, the southern port city that made headlines around the world after a Russian airstrike destroyed a maternity and children’s hospital.
Project DYNAMO describes its team members as “humanitarian”. Many of them are “current and former members of the US military”.
At Club DYNAMO, rescued surrogate mothers can remain in the “safe abode” or other safe location of their choice until delivery, and are “legally” allowed to leave Ukraine, according to Project DYNAMO.

The other evacuees rescued by Project DYNAMO during its latest AQUARIUS rescue mission included 40 children and 15 adults. It reportedly took 30 hours for all evacuees to be rescued from their locations.
Project DYNAMO describes its team members as “humanitarian”. It said many of them were “current and former members of the US military” with experience in “special operations and intelligence communities.”

The organization reported that it rescued more than 400 people from “war-torn, contested and Russian-occupied areas of Ukraine” and “transported them safely to neighboring countries.”
It has been rescuing people in need since the beginning of the war, which began on February 24, 2022.

The non-profit organization has received more than 15,000 evacuation requests from people around the world including the US, UK, Canada, France, Romania, Nigeria, Mexico and Afghanistan related to the Russia-Ukraine war.
Project DYNAMO accepts evasion requests on projectdynamo.org and also recommends that people submit eviction requests to the US Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP).
The privately run and donor-funded rescue organization derives its name from “Operation Dynamo”.
This was the code name used during the Dunkirk evacuation operations of World War II in 1940.
