Susanna Reid admits she ‘cried her heart out’ as her sons prepare to leave home for university

Susanna Reid revealed she is “really sad” and “her heart is screaming out” as her youngest son prepares to leave the family home for university.

The Good Morning Britain presenter, 51, decided last year to stop taking TV jobs so she could be there for her children in the final years of their education.

The journalist – who shares three children Sam, 20, Finn, 18, and Jack, 17, with ex-partner Dominic Cotton, instead makes the most of every moment with her boys.

She told The Mirror: “You’re crying with all your heart because all regular time with your kids is gone. It’s really sad.

“Now that they are all on their way to leave home, I want to enjoy the time with them as much as possible. Good Morning Britain is my biggest commitment and I don’t take on anything extra.”

Susanna “quit” drinking four years ago after having “hangxiety” and now enjoys “spending time with the kids” instead.

She continued, “I stopped enjoying it. I prefer an alcohol-free life – it’s exhausting and I’m scared of the Han. I don’t feel like I can continue after pint of Guinness the night before. Spending time with the kids is my liberation.”

Though she avoided alcohol, the former Strictly Come Dancing contestant admitted she turned to comfort eating “while putting on a rock.”

However, she has since dropped 1.5 stone and previously praised health guru Joe Wicks, 36, for helping keep the nation fit during lockdown.

On Sunday, Susanna joined her ITV co-stars Kate Garraway and Ben Shepherd to launch Good Morning Britain’s award-winning 1 Million Minutes campaign.

The charity encourages viewers to donate their time and connect with those who are feeling alone, and Susanna said she’s “glad” she can “companion” with people who are alone at Christmas.

Last month, Susanna showcased her incredible figure while posing for a glamorous photoshoot with woman&home.

The TV star wowed in a number of form-fitting ensembles for the spread before opening up about a flirtatious encounter with David Beckham.

However, she insisted things between the two were purely professional as she called him her favorite interviewee of all time.
