The writer flew down a flight of stairs in her sleep. I realized that I was flying without knowing how to land. The wheelchair Facebook post
Were you surprised that I didn't write anything during the holidays? This is how Susanna Tamaro's article begins. What appears to the world again after a period of silence. The Go Where the Heart Take You author has resumed the conversation with her fans to talk about the incredible mishap that happened to her a week before Christmas. He wrote on Facebook: “I flew up a flight of stairs due to a bout of sleepwalking.”
He didn't say anything more about it. Instead, he talked about the consequences of the accident: multiple bruises and fractures to his lower and upper limbs. In the photo you can see the writer sitting in a wheelchair, wearing colored checked wool trousers, a handkerchief around her neck and her right arm in a cast held up. What a shock when I woke up and realized that I was flying without knowing how to land – writes Tamaro –. But even when I was in the ambulance, I just said to myself, “How lucky I am, how lucky I am, because I could have died or remained paralyzed, and instead I'm still alive, even with a few broken bones.”
Tamaro had thought of a post for December 19th to mark an anniversary: the birthday of my ancestor Ettore Schmitz, better known as Italo Svevo. But then came the night of the 18th, autumn. And in the days that followed, the pain, the disbelief. Strange thoughts. What took her energy: Thoughts I would have liked to share with all of you over the holidays. But I thought – says the author – that if I am still here, it is also because of your affection and because of the many things that connect us. Thank you for the lovely messages you sent me!
