Suspect of attack in Haiti transferred to prison

The lawyer had a hearing this Tuesday before the investigating judge Walter Wesser Voltaire and was subsequently held in the National Prison, where for two years about 40 people have been arrested, including about twenty former Colombian soldiers accused of committing the crime and police officers who You were part of the presidential guard.

Badio was arrested last Thursday in a supermarket in this capital, two years after an arrest warrant was issued for his alleged involvement in the assassination and police offered a reward of six million gourdes (nearly $46,000) for information leading to his arrest led.

The former anti-corruption unit agent is accused of murder, attempted murder and armed robbery.

He was allegedly the mastermind of the attack in which Moïse was shot twelve times and died as a result of his wounds, while his wife Martine Etienne was shot and seriously injured.

According to an investigation by the Central Directorate of Criminal Investigation, Badio coordinated the various actors involved, including former Supreme Court judge Wendell Thélot Coq, former senator John Joel Joseph and the former Colombian soldiers who committed the crime.

For his part, the former parliamentarian pleaded guilty earlier this month in the United States to conspiring with others to provide material support and resources to kidnap or murder a person outside that country.

So far, eleven people have been arrested and formally charged with violating US law and conspiring to murder Moïse. Three of them pleaded guilty and one was sentenced to life in prison.

In Haiti, however, despite the arrest of around 40 people, no one has been formally charged.

This Tuesday, after returning from Mexico, where he attended a summit on migration, Prime Minister Ariel Henry congratulated the police on the arrest of Badio, assuring that it was a great step forward for the investigation.
